Flash Units

Q:  What Nissin PS 8 Power Pack cable do I use for the on the Fujifilm or Micro Four Thirds Di700A and or i60A?

  • A:  The Di700A and i60A for Fujifilm and Micro Four Thirds Systems both utilize a Sony type external power cord with the Nissin PS 8 Power Pack.

Q:  I am shooting with a Sony Camera. My Nissin Flash and Air 1 Commander are paired and communicate when off the camera but when the Air 1 Commander is on the Sony Camera, the flash will not fire.

  • A:  The Sony Camera must be in the "WL" mode when using the Air 1 Commander to control an off-camera flash. Place the Air 1 Commander on the camera, then activate the "WL" mode in the flash menu of the Sony Camera.

Q:  Why will the Auto Focus Assist beam not work on my Nissin flash?

  • A:  Many mirrorless cameras from several manufacturers have an Auto Focus Assist beam built into the camera body. When this is the case, the camera body will not send a signal to a flash to activate the on-flash Auto Focus Assist beam.

Q:  What off-camera cord do I use with my Nissin Fujifilm version flash?

  • A:  You may use a Canon type off camera cord with the Fujifilm version flash and maintain compatibility.

Q:  Using the Air 1 Commander on my Sony Camera, it will not allow me to go into High Speed Sync.

  • A:  In the Sony system, the HSS mode must be activated on the Air 1. To do this, simply hold down the pilot button for 3 seconds until it begins to blink. You are now in HSS mode. To turn off this mode just hold the pilot button down again until it stops blinking.

Q: I have paired my Nissin Commander and Flash and it fires when I press the pilot button but when I put it on my camera it will no-longer fire.

  • A:  In some cases, it may feel as if the Air Commander is seated properly in the hotshoe of the camera when in fact it is not. Gently push the Air Commander all the way forward until you here a "Click" sound. Now the Air Commander should be completely mounted and the trigger the Nissin Flash. (added 6/4/18)

Q: I have paired by Air Commander to my Nissin i60A. The beeping has stopped, but the flash will not fire from the commander.

  • A:  After the pairing process is complete, be sure to select group A, B, or C on the back of the i60A. If the i60A is not in one of these groups, then it will not fire from the Air Commander. (added 6/4/18)

Q: I have paired by Air Commander to my Nissin i60A. The beeping has stopped, but the flash will not fire from the commander.

  • A:  Check that the Air Commander and the i60A are set to the same channel. If they are on different channels the flash will not fire. When pairing, it is best to use the have the flash in the auto channel mode. (added 6/4/18)

Q: I have paired by Air Commander to my Nissin Air Receiver. The beeping has stopped, but the flash will not fire from the commander.

  • A:  Check that the Air Commander and the Air R are set to the same channel. If they are on different channels the flash will not fire. When pairing, it is best to use the have the Air R in the auto channel mode. (added 6/4/18)

Q: When using the Nissin Air Commander, I am not able to access Rear Curtain Sync. On my Sony Camera. Why is this?

  • A: When using an Air Commander, the Sony Camera must be set to the WL in the Cameras Flash menu. The Rear Curtain Sync. function is in the same menu; therefore, you cannot activate two features from the same menu at the same time.
    EXCEPTION: Some new Sony cameras such as the A7R III and A7 III have updated the flash menu so that the WL feature is now separated from other flash functions. So, on these cameras, it is possible to activate the Rear Curtain Sync. mode while the Nissin Air Commander is engaged. (added 6/4/18)

 

Nissin MG 10

Firmware Update
Q: Sometimes the flash cannot be triggered, but another Nissin flash is working fine.

  • A: It may be caused by a previous firmware version. You can download the latest firmware from the Nissin official website. Update firmware here.

PC Terminal (X-sync)
Q: How can I use the X-Sync?

  • A: Just plug in the cable, turn "Gr" to "Red Dot" to switch on x-sync mode. For power control, rotate the"Ch". For Example. Ch A stands for 1/256 power and so on up to the A which is 1/1 power. For further information, see page 15 of the User Manual: Download Manual.

Wireless Remote Shutter
Q: How do I use the wireless remote shutter release on the MG10?

  • A: Connect the shutter cable between the Air 10s & the camera. (Cable supplied with air 10s) Don't forget to turn the"Gr"dial to the"Red Dot "on the MG10 before using it. Press the "Modeling light" button on the Air 10s to shift to the advanced Group mode and adjust power in Advanced group A.

Over Heating?
Q: With such a high-powered flash, will it overheat and shut down if it gets too hot?

  • A: No. There are vents along with heat resistant materials and tiny cooling fans inside. This will keep the MG10 from overheating.

Removable External Motorized Zoom Head
Q: It seems that the zoom head on the MG10 is not a standard size, so it will not fit other flash accessories in the market.

  • A: No worries. It is removable. You can easily remove it by pulling down on the thumb tab on the bottom of the zoom head and sliding it completely off. This way it will fit the Nissin accessories (coming soon) and other accessories in the market.

Air10s Channel
Q: Why does the i60A, Di700A and Air R not flash when I am using the Air10s?

  • A: They are not compatible with the Air10s if you are using it on Channel 1. It will work fine if you change to another channel (Ch.2-8). Moreover, you may be trying to fire the flashes in the advanced mode. The i60A, Di700A and Air R only work in the basic mode with the Air 10s.

Open mode
Q: What is Open Mode?

  • A: The Open Mode allows multiple Air10s (different versions) to operate with the MG10. You do not need to pair again when a group of people use differing brands of cameras. To activate, simply press the Open button on the MG10, you will see it light up. On the Air 10s, hold down the M/TTL button and you will see the word "OPEN" in the lower left corner.

Q: What Nissin PS 8 Power Pack cable do I use on the MG10?

  • A: The MG10 utilizes the Sony type external power cord with the Nissin PS 8 Power Pack.

Q: How to fully use the light stand?

  • A: Buy one, and try it, and then you'll know. lol

Weight Hook

Q: What is this silver knob used for?

  • A: As a "weight hook" for hanging a sand bag or any other weight such as a water bottle etc.
    • p.s. That hook should not be rotatable, if not, please contact the distributor in your region to get it fixed.

Metal Screw

Q: Two size of screws? What are they for?

  • A: From the top of the stand:
    • The smallest 1/4" (left bottom): For mounting a flash using the stand that comes with all Nissin flashes.
    • The biggest 3/8" (right top): For use with other lighting accessories and adapters which require this thread size including the Nissin adapters (coming soon)

Velcro strap

Q: What is the Velcro strap used for?

  • A: You can use the Velcro strap to attach the Nissin PS8 power pack to the stand, of course, this is not the only way, but it is the simplest way to use it. - Be creative. You are welcome to discover new uses for it.

Safe payload weight

Q: What is the heaviest load the stand can support?

  • A: 1.5 - 2 kg (3.3 - 4.0 lbs.)
